AI FOMO

Please Stop Force-Feeding AI FOMO to Others!

Not too long ago, I wrote a post about the AI Hype Burnout and how it was harmful to the whole industry.

I thought that was the end of it, but it seems like the FOMO is starting to kick in. Many people are seeing that AI is finally delivering real value and are “inviting” everyone to quickly jump on the bandwagon.

I get it. It’s exciting, and I’m excited too. But please, let’s not force-feed FOMO to others.

Just yesterday, I heard the phrase “The developers not using AI will be left behind” in a conversation. I understand what the person wanted to say, but it came across as a threat.

A more pragmatic message would be:

AI is currently accelerating developers who know how to use it effectively. This doesn’t mean that those who don’t use it will be left behind, but they might miss out on some of the benefits and efficiencies that AI can provide. Thankfully, AI is not rocket science. It can be picked up quite quickly; it just requires some iterations to get the hang of it. So, if you’re not using AI yet, don’t worry. Just start experimenting with it, and you’ll see how it can help you in your work.

Of course, this will not work with people who are rejecting AI altogether. But for those who are on the fence, this is a much more positive message that encourages them to try it out without feeling like they’re being left behind.

This is not as catchy as “Don’t be left behind, start using AI now!” and I would love to have a catchy phrase to share a more positive message.

If you have any ideas, please share them with me.
